CB Cares has invested our energy and resources in helping to build assets
in the Central Bucks community. This work continues to have a profound
impact on our children, youth and families.
As you would expect, the more people who purposely commit to making positive
changes in our community, the better the impact will be. It is our hope
our website will give the tools and resources to begin or continue building
assets. We welcome your participation along with your thoughts, comments
and success stories. Contact our offices if you would like to become a CB Cares partner, whether as an individual group, business, or organization.

CB Cares’ offers volunteer opportunites during the course of the year which prompt community members to
develop and support various volunteer service projects. We kick off the
year with CB Cares’ annual Martin Luther King Day of Service- a
moving opening ceremony engages area choirs, youth performers, and various
community members as we honor the compassionate spirit of Dr. Martin Luther
King, Jr.
Martin Luther King Day of Service remains our largest community-wide
volunteer service project event. Opportunities listed below may be contacted any time during the year.

Martin Luther King Day of Service
This day of service is part of a nation-wide effort uniting volunteers from America’s small towns to large cities in honor of Dr. King’s legacy. CB Cares coordinates all of the MLK volunteer opportunities within the community. Each year more than 1,000 volunteers come out to support this national initiative for service projects. Our partnership with the inter-faith community allows us to work with several of the local congregations as well. This year’s Martin Luther King Day of Service will take place on Monday, January 21, 2013.

Mini Business World
This program is a business simulation, fostering community relationships and connecting youth and adults through positive, asset building experiences. High school students are presented with the opportunity to experience the world of business decision-making, team building, sales, marketing and management through the analysis of six “mock” quarters of production and financial reports. Students learn by working directly with local business leaders who emphasize the value of teamwork, negotiations, and diplomacy and most importantly, stress the significance of youth for the future of our community.

Safe Teen Driving
The goal of CB Cares’ Safe Teen Driving initiative is to provide our parents and teens with the resources to become safer teen drivers. Driving fatalities continue to be the number one cause of death for teens between the ages of 16 and 19. To help reduce this tragic number of fatalities, we have approached this problem in several different ways: an evening community presentation featuring author and speaker, Timothy Smith, who spoke on the topic “Crashproof Your Kids”, the creation of our Parent/Teen Safe Driving Contract in partnership with the Fred Beans Family of Dealerships, and two roundtable discussions which included representatives from law enforcement, driving industry experts, elected officials, and teens. We continue to plan for future collaborative community discussions on this crucial topic.

January Asset, #9 - Service to Others.
Demonstrated by Mrs. Lindsay Smith’s 5th grade class at
Bridge Valley
Each student in Mrs. Smith’s class is kind, caring and friendly and has developed a strong friendship with each of the students in Mrs. McErlean’s Autistic Support class. They help to teach the students appropriate social skills. For example, 17 students volunteered to be lunch and recess buddies! Some of the students volunteered not only to eat lunch with the class but they also volunteered to hang out with the class at recess. The lunch and recess buddies are enthusiastic, creative and energetic! In addition, several of the students with autism are included for homeroom, PE and music class. The students in the 5th grade class help tremendously in specials. They motivate everyone do their best! Individuals from Mrs. Smith’s class independently create and implement special projects, as well, and serve as positive role models. Their tolerance and acceptance for all individuals helps the students to grow, to learn and to thrive in school. As a result, the students with autism generalize skills and become more independent at home and in the community. Mrs. Smith’s students are committed to the creation of an accepting environment where each individual’s unique strengths and talents are celebrated.

The First Annual CB Cares Positive Coaching Award went to Bryan Rosica who was nominated by 4 different families whose children are fortunate to have him as their coach for the Buckingham United “Blast” Team ( U12 soccer). Bryan was described as having a “calm
demeanor, as being a communicator who offers positive encouragement, and he represents high integrity.” He emphasizes the importance of
being a well-rounded individual. He encourages good school performance and volunteer service. An interesting “side note” is that Bryan coaches along with his father Jim Rosica who serves as one of the assistant coaches; this positive intergenerational duo/dynamic helps further instill family values in his young players. Bryan truly sees his role as an opportunity to re-enforce important life lessons.
Congratulations!
